Advantages:

01/

Authentic Weathering Through Controlled Carbonization
The characteristic aged surface is a direct result of our thermal modification process - not an applied coating or artificial treatment. It produces fine, natural checks, a consistently low-sheen matte texture, and a mildly distressed profile that faithfully echoes reclaimed barn timber, all accomplished at the board's core level.

02/

Structurally Sound and Biologically Resilient
The base material for our Hollow Faux Wood Beam is FSC-certified pine, subjected to a calibrated 212°C carbonization cycle. This permanently alters the wood's chemistry, eliminating the nutrients that sustain pests and fungal decay while dramatically lowering moisture uptake. The beams are dimensionally stable, will not crack or splinter under normal conditions, and require only an annual oil replenishment to maintain peak condition.

03/

Streamlined Installation for Hollow-Back Profiles
Despite their robust visual weight, the U-shaped cross-section keeps the beam exceptionally light. No additional load-bearing framework is necessary; installation proceeds quickly using simple wood blocking secured into the substrate. This method minimizes manual handling risk and reduces both on-site time and associated labor costs to a very practical minimum.

04/

Configurable Specifications With Proven Longevity
Every order can be adapted - cross-section, length, surface tint, and finish sheen are all adjustable to meet specific architectural criteria. Our facility draws on more than 20 years of specialized manufacturing and design expertise, a foundation that has consistently produced a 95% client retention rate across our full timber beam range.

Installation

Pinpoint the Ceiling Framework
Grab a stud finder and track down the ceiling joists. Pop a chalk line to map out exactly where your beams will sit. Then, screw 2×4 wooden blocks (cleats) into each joist, spacing them every 36 inches. These blocks will carry the beam.

Build Your 3-Sided Beam Boxes
Measure and cut your real wood boards on a miter saw. Lay the side and bottom pieces face-down. Apply a line of wood glue at the seams, fold the side boards upward against the bottom, and join them with a brad nailer using 1.5 to 2-inch nails. Wait until the glue has set completely.

Smooth and Color the Wood
Sand the beam boxes thoroughly to remove any dried glue and to make the surface nice and even. Brush on a pre-stain conditioner, then wipe or brush on your stain. Make sure every piece is totally dry before you handle it again.

Mount the Beams Overhead
Lift the beam and slot it right over the cleats on the ceiling. Drive screws through the side walls into the 2×4 blocks inside to lock everything in place.

Cosmetic Finishing Touches
Use tinted putty or caulk that matches your stain to hide any screw holes or slight gaps. To give your installation the feel of massive old timbers, wrap the joints with decorative iron bands or faux-leather straps.

FAQ:

Q1: Which beam type is right for my project: box or solid?

If you need genuine load-bearing strength, go with a solid beam cut from a single timber. If your goal is to add the rich feel of exposed wood without structural demands,Hollow Faux Wood Beams deliver that authentic appearance perfectly. Both use real wood; the choice simply reflects whether you need function, form, or both.

Q2: Why invest in Thermowood box beams?

Thermowood's strength comes from deep within. The heat-based modification treats the complete thickness, not just a surface layer. As a result, these box beams outperform conventionally treated lumber in long-term stability and resistance to environmental wear.

Q3: When can I expect my shipment?

Smaller orders are typically dispatched within 7–15 days of receiving full payment. Large-scale orders require roughly 30 days. We'll confirm the exact schedule based on your specific quantity.

Q4: Is it possible to review a sample before buying?

Yes, we provide free samples. Simply cover the freight, either by prepaying or through freight collect billing.

Q5: Can box beams support weight?

Box beams are crafted for decorative use, not for structural loading. That said, they excel at encasing existing load-bearing elements like steel I-beams or columns, lending them the impressive look of solid timber without any of the heavy lifting.

Q6: Does carbonized wood mean my box beam is structurally stronger?

Carbonization does not improve load strength. It introduces a slight brittleness, but it vastly enhances the wood's ability to resist moisture, decay, insects, and movement. You get a beam that stays dimensionally true and free from rot far longer than standard wood.

Q7: What's involved in installing box beams?

The hollow design makes our Hollow Faux Wood Beams very straightforward to mount. Secure wooden cleats to the ceiling or wall, slide the beam over the top, and fasten through the sides. It's a minimal-modification process, ideal for retrofits. For full instructions, see our installation section or reach out directly - we're happy to help.

Q8: Do you offer custom specifications?

Definitely. We can customize the color finish, dimensions, and edge detailing to your exact project requirements.

About Us

Wood products continue to evolve as architects and consumers seek new textures, deeper colors, lower-maintenance finishes, and more distinctive natural surfaces. MUMU actively develops new combinations of wood species, carbonizing techniques, brushing methods, oil systems, profiles, and construction details.

Our innovation work covers Shou Sugi Ban effects, thermally modified timber, carbonized wood, textured wall panels, coordinated ceilings, faux beams, and outdoor furniture finishes. New concepts are tested through sample development and adjusted for appearance, manufacturability, consistency, and intended application.

We also work with customers on exclusive finishes and private-label collections designed for specific markets. By connecting design ideas with practical factory experience, MUMU helps partners create products that are visually recognizable and suitable for repeat production. Our goal is not simply to follow trends, but to develop wood solutions that combine craftsmanship, character, and commercial value.
