Korean Countryside Residence
This private villa project in South Korea features natural larch cladding as the main exterior material. Surrounded by a quiet rural landscape, the house combines a simple modern structure with the warm and natural character of timber.

The building has a distinctive multi-level form with pitched roofs, large windows, and clean architectural lines. Larch boards are installed vertically across the exterior walls and gable sections, giving the façade a unified and balanced appearance. The natural variation in color and grain creates a softer contrast with the dark roof edges and window frames.
One of the most attractive features of this project is the way the timber changes under different light conditions. In direct sunlight, the larch shows warm golden and light brown tones, while shaded areas appear deeper and more textured. This natural variation adds depth to the façade and helps the building blend comfortably into its surrounding landscape.
The vertical cladding also emphasizes the height of the villa, especially around the main two-story section. Together with the large glazed openings, it gives the house a more open and contemporary character without losing the warmth associated with traditional timber buildings.
For this project, larch was chosen not only for its appearance but also for its suitability for exterior use. Its pronounced grain, relatively high density, and natural weathering characteristics make it a practical material for residential façades.
The completed exterior presents a calm and natural architectural style, showing how larch can work effectively in modern villa design while maintaining a strong connection between the building and its environment.
